Ok, let's go back a few lifetimes to Greenville.
After MSU I joined the Navy in 1968 and wound up serving in the command of the man who started the Tonkin Gulf incident. We only saw South Vietnam for about 3 hours. The rest of the time we were in North Vietnamese waters and were on the move all the time. Most of what we did came from the oval office directly. When a sailor crosses the Equator he is supposed to go through a ceremony whereby he becomes a shellback. Swim through garbage, kiss king Neptune's belly, etc.Well I have crossed the Equator 3 times but was not supposed to be there, so it was never entered in my service record as having done so.
After Nam I requested transfer back to Japan and wound up in Seattle as part of a commissioning crew of DE-1057 the USS Rathburne.
One night I got a phone call wanting to know if I was Pauline Groth's grandson. I was invited by this woman to come ot for a dinner. They picked me up at the base and they had a daughter(fathom that) and we will be married 38 years this December 22nd. The woman who called knew my grandmother before WW2 and had kept in touch all those years. I had seen pictures from visits, etc. but never in my wildest dreams imagined I would be in Seattle and meeting my wife whose mother knew my grandmother. We have wondered if we were not promised at birth.
After the Navy we came to Seattle for a couple of years and then moved to Longview, Texas and went into business with my parents. They owned a company which manufacured plaster molds used in the hobby ceramic industry. I was with them for 13 years and covered all 48 states selling the molds at trade shows, door to door , etc. Some of you might remember my mom's ceramic shop in Greenvlle.
Our oldest son was adopted
in 1978 from The Gladney home in Ft. Worth,Texas. We had some problems trying to start a family so decided adoption was the best thing to do.
Matthew is now 30 and the proud father of our grand daughter Clara.
She is the first girl on my side in 4 generations.
We were actually married 19 years before we had our first child. Never tell me I cannot do something!
Michael was indeed made in heaven and
we have truly been blessed with both our sons. Michael is now 18.
He just earned the rank of Eagle Scout and will be going off to Whitworth College this Fall in Spokane, Washington.
My wife takes care of Clara 3 days a week and has a house keeping service.
I have been at a Lowe's home destruction center for 13 years.
I went back into the Naval reserves in 1989 and retired out last year, so I am USN retired. Just the health insurance benefits have been worth it.
I finished my paralegal degree 2 years ago and have started a judgment recovery and enforcement service where I help people who have won in small claims court recovery thier judgments.
More later. |
